Shoulder impingment diagnosed by my rheumatolagist-RA caused rotator cuff tears?Shoulder impingment diagnosed by my rheumatolagist-RA caused rotator cuff tears?

My Dr sent me to a orthopedic surgeon and he had a MRI done, and said I had a rotator cuff tear, so I had the other shoulder done yesterday and that one also has a tear. I have had RA for the past 6 years and I'm on enbrel. Could my RA have caused the rotator cuff tears?

Dr. Frederick Wolfe says:

Rotator cuff tears are more common the older we get. Rheumatoid arthritis does often play a role because RA inflammation involves and damages the rotator cuff.
