How can I tell if I am in a flare after surgery? I do not know what to do if I am in one. I need to sleep around 12 hours to feel well.

Dr. Justus Fiechtner says:

Trauma (including surgery) can sometimes trigger a lupus flare, but other circumstances can also cause fatigue including anemia and/or thyroid disease, which is very common in auto-immune diseases such as lupus. A visit or call to your physician would help to identify the cause of the fatigue, etc. If it is a flare, your doctor may prescribe a low-dose of prednisone or other steroid for a short time to stop the flare.
