Does ankolosing spondolytis affect the feet?Does ankolosing spondolytis affect the feet?

I have been having severe foot pain in both feet for almost 2 years now. My podiatrist ordered an MRI, which showed tenosynovitis in both feet, severe scarring and thickening of the plantar fascia and recently a plantar fibromotosis, but he doesn't want to give me any pain medicine. I am frustrated. A neurologist said my foot pain may be caused by my ankylosing spondylitis, diagnosed in 2001.

Dr. Jonathan Kay says:

Ankylosing spondylitis typically affects the spine and sacroiliac joints in the pelvis. However, peripheral joint inflammation also can occur in ankylosing spondylitis. A typical site where inflammation occurs in patients with ankylosing spondylitis is at the insertion of the Achilles tendon into the heel. Thus, the feet may be affected by ankylosing spondylitis.
